Your support will help us provide safety and support to thousands, as we have done for the past two decades

We are here—no matter what

The devastating crisis in Afghanistan has forced over half a million Afghans—including thousands of our clients, staff, and their families—to flee seeking safer refuge.

We are humbled by the outpouring of donations we have received in response to this urgent need and crisis.

Women for Afghan Women (WAW) has been working on the ground in Afghanistan for over twenty years to improve the lives of Afghan women, children, families, and communities—and we are determined to employ every resource we have to continue our critical humanitarian work.

At this moment, WAW has made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend part of its operations and programs in Afghanistan. However, we are continuing many essential services. We are doing everything we can to protect and support staff and clients who still want to get out of Afghanistan.

We are offering assistance to staff who are interested in applying for the Priority 2 (P-2) US Refugee Resettlement Program, as well as providing documents that can be used for similar programs in Europe, Latin America, and other countries. We are looking at every conceivable option available to help our at-risk staff and clients find safety. In addition, given the widespread banking challenges and political uncertainties, we are also continuing to provide services to women, children, and internally displaced persons in Afghanistan under our care on a limited basis (but not taking on new clients).

At the same time, an unprecedented wave of new Afghan refugees have already arrived in the US and will continue to do so. The WAW team in the US is working around the clock to make sure that Afghan refugees are welcomed warmly and supported as they rebuild their lives in the US.

We are ready to provide culturally sensitive support, basic needs, trauma-informed mental health counseling, education and social services, housing, transportation, and immigration legal support. We want our new community members to know that they are and will not be alone. We will be there for them until they can stand on their own.

Much still needs to be done. Help us keep the #AfghanWomenStrong spirit alive.

Your fully tax-deductible donations to WAW will help us respond to this devastating humanitarian crisis. Help us keep our people safe.
