Take Action: Donate to Girls Emergency Education Fund

Women for Afghan Women (WAW) staff and board members send our deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the horrific car bomb attack at the Sayed ul-Shuhada High School on May 8th.

As we mourn the senseless murder and loss of at least 85 innocent lives and over 147 wounded in this heinous act of terror, we ask the world, and particularly the US administration, to pay heed to these attacks that target not only women and girls, but also minorities, and especially women and girls of minority groups.

Yet, despite these threats to their lives, Afghan women and girls are undaunted.

In the video below, we see these same students go back to school the day after the bombing. Asked why, 12-year old Marwa says, "We are strong girls. We will continue to be like that."

In another report, an eyewitness recounts* that as he rushed to try and help a young girl who was covered with blood and hanging on to a burning school bag, she said to him, "Please sir, put out the fire on my school bag. My father is poor and we can't afford to buy new books to replace these."

These girls will not give up. We will not give up.

We are determined to make sure these girls receive all the support they need to stay strong. To this end, WAW has established this Emergency Education Fund and is partnering with other stakeholders working tirelessly to support the survivors and their families.
